Fire Mitigation

Fire Mitigation Information
for
Spread Eagle Residence

Living in Custer County is both a blessing and a curse. We get to enjoy some of the most beautiful surroundings in Colorado. We are also tasked with trying to look after this amazing ecosystem. As forest fires continue to wreak havoc on our forest, Spread Eagle HOA continues to encourage fire mitigation where possible.

In 2011 there was a wind microburst in our area, with winds in excess of 100 mph. Since then, there have been other strong storms. A number of trees have been downed and many are still on lots.

The Association encourages owners to take steps as needed to do cleanup.

There are several different methods of removing downed and standing dead trees. Your preference about this as well as other factors would play a part in determining who you wish to do the work.

A few things to remember:

Chipping Wood

As a method of cleanup is chipping wood, please be aware that the Forest Service advises that chipped wood not be left too deep. It is a fire source of its own. It does burn and if left too deep can generate enough heat to start a fire.

NO Burning!

Under no circumstances can burning be used as a method of getting rid of old wood in Spread Eagle.

ACC Approval

Any live trees over 8 inches in diameter require ACC approval before removing.
